RXSOL Trisodium Phosphate (TSP) is the inorganic compound and used as a cleaning agent, lubricant, food additive, stain remover, and degreaser. TSP is commonly used after cleaning a surface with mineral spirits to remove hydrocarbon residues and may be used with household chlorine bleach in the same solution without hazardous reactions. TSP has a pH of 12 meaning the chemical is an alkaline. Alkaline agents typically have a powerful capacity to penetrate greases and oils. Due to its high pH value in solution, its ability to lower interfacial tension against oils and solids, and its marked power of emulsifying oils. It is used as a water softener and boiler compound because of its ability to precipitate calcium and magnesium phosphates which cause scale formation.
