Aluminum Stearate is a non-water soluble surface active agent used primarily for defoaming of waterbased drilling fluids. It is a fine white powder with a slightly fatty odor. It is an aluminum salt of stearic acid. Aluminum Stearate is an effective defoamer for water-based drilling fluids. Aluminum stearate reduces the surface tension of water-based drilling fluids enhancing the breakout of gas and air bubbles, minimizing the foaming tendency of the drilling fluid.
