 Barite is a common mineral and makes very attractive specimens. It often is an accessory mineral to other minerals and can make a nice backdrop to brightly colored crystals. At times bladed or tabular crystals of Barite form a concentric pattern of increasingly larger crystals outward.
Barium Sulfate is a White crystalline odorless solid insoluble in water. Mostly barium sulfate is used as a component of white pigment for paints. In oil paint barium sulfate is almost transparent and is used as a filler.Barium sulfate is a compound used as an x-ray contrast medium that occurs in nature as the mineral barite.
 
Physical Charteristics of  Barite Barium Sulphate :-
1.            Color is variable but is commonly found colorless or white, also blue, green, yellow and red shades.
2.            Luster is vitreous.
3.            Transparency crystals are transparent to translucent.
4.            Cleavage is perfect in one direction, less so in another direction.
 
Applications  Of  Barite Barium Sulphate :-
 
 
1.            As barium sulfate has high burning point and is insoluble in water, it is used as a coating material in casting of copper anode plates.
2.            In colorimetry, barium sulfate is used as a near-perfect diffuser when measuring light sources.
3.            Barium sulfate is sometimes used (or else PTFE) to coat the interior of integrating spheres due to the high reflectance of the material and near Lambertian characteristics.
